Children's Books about Titanic

Recently, I found there have been quite a few new books about Titanic for kids that have been published, or will be published in the very near future.

April, 1912, front page of the New York Herald,
on the Sinking of RMS Titanic
Why books about Titanic for kids?   With the century mark of one of the world's great sea tragedies being marked this year, evryone is interested in learning more about the sinking of the Titanic, and that includes kids.  It's nice to know that there are materials available on age appropriate levels to satisfy children's curiosity, too.

I've written up a little article with some tidbits of information about the children who were aboard the great ocean liner on her ill-fated maiden voyage in 1912, and listed some of the books about Titanic for kids.  If you have a child who is curious about the ship, the people who sailed on her, or the events surrounding her sinking, please pay a visit to the article.  There's nothing like a good book about something a kid is fascinated about to get them reading, and that's always a good thing!

Kids LOVE Nonfiction Books

Although some adults would rather clean the gutters than lounge around with a nonfiction book, the same is NOT true of kids.  Why do you suppose that is?

I'll tell you:  It's because kids KNOW they still have a lot to learn, and because they have a lot of questions.  Non-fiction books answer those questions, and I've seen kids from toddlers to teens spend incredible amounts of time with reference books for children.  They are literally fascinated with them, and with the new things they discover between the covers of these books!

Need some ideas for a gift for a child?  How about a nonfiction book for kids?  Chances are pretty darned good they'll love it.  Here are a couple of pages with some specific recommendations by age group:

Shower Idea: Bring a Book Baby Shower

Here's a great baby shower idea:   Start Building Baby's Personal Library with a Bring a Book Baby Shower

Literacy is an absolute key to success in school and in life these days, and the time leading up to a baby's birth is not too early to start thinking about the child's education.

One way to get a child used to reading is to surround them with books of their own.  This article suggests that newborns will get a lot from being introduced to books and being read to, and that books for babies are great shower gifts.
